The Miller Family
Dear Hempfield Church Family,

Julie and I both grew up in Franklin County, Pennsylvania within Brethren in Christ churches. We met our freshman year at a College Bible Study at Penn State Mont Alto Campus.  We co-lead that same Bible study the following year.  We were friends for two years before we dated.  Julie graduated from
Messiah College and is currently a stay-at-home mom.  I graduated from Shippensburg University
and pursued teaching mathematics as a platform for ministry to teenagers.

After completing college we were married on the day before the blizzard of 1996.  We were stuck right here in Lancaster, PA at the Willow Valley Resort for our honeymoon.  As a couple we have served in ministry since 1997.  While I was working as a youth pastor Julie became the director at a local pregnancy center.

We soon had our first child, Josiah, who is now 11 years old and is in 5th grade.  He loves running, soccer, music and his game cube.  Four beautiful girls followed.  Hannah is 9 and in 3rd grade.  She enjoys art, cheerleading, and being with her friends.  Grace is 7 and in 1st grade.  She loves being silly, playing with her sisters, and imaginative play.  The twins, Rylie and Noelle, are 4 and in preschool.  Rylie enjoys singing and coloring.  Noelle loves to cuddle and talk.  Our children are very active and social.

We come to you with diverse experiences from our prior churches.  Both of us are committed to helping others live out their faith in Christ and to develop genuine relationships with one another along the journey. We’ve served in various pastoral roles including youth, associate, and solo ministry.  We’ve been the lead couple at the Ransom Creek Community Church for the past 2˝ years. We are moving from Clarence Center, NY, a suburb of Buffalo.  We’re excited to be closer to our family and friends in Pennsylvania.  We are equally excited about the possibilities here in Lancaster and serving with you at the Hempfield Church.  We anticipate making many new friendships and look forward to connecting with each of you.

Pastor Dave

(Pastor Dave will be joining the Hempfield staff as our associate pastor July 1st, 2009. Welcome Pastor Dave!)

Leslie Spurrier

The numbers of small children and young famies keep growing here at Hempfield.  God continues to bring fresh life and fresh faces.  We are delighted to announce that Leslie Spurrier will be giving specific oversight to this growing ministry area.

Leslie and her family have been attending Hempfield since January 2003.  The friendly vibe of the congregation drew them in and strong Biblical teaching has kept them there ever since. Leslie’s husband Matt is a math teacher at Lancaster Mennonite High School and the love of her life!  Leslie has two tiny kids that keep her hopping and always laughing – Simeon and Sophia.  Before having children, she taught middle school English and reading at Conestoga Valley Middle School for eight years.  Though having two small kids leaves little time for hobbies, Leslie does enjoy sports of all kinds, reading, music, cooking, and crafts. Leslie has been deeply involved in ministry to small children on a volunteer basis for some time.  Now she will be taking a part time staff position with us to give additional direction and oversight to this growing, imporant, and exciting ministry area. Welcome Leslie!

Dave Clark
Dave Clark has recently joined our staff as a ministerial intern.  He is currently enrolled in  ministerial studies at Philadelphia Biblical University.  He has chosen to serve with us as part of his practical training.  Dave and Megan have already been serving in the youth/young adult ministries in our church.  Now Dave will be serving in an official capacity in those areas as well as some other general ministry assignments.  We are delighted to have Dave as part of our team.  Here are some of his comments: "My wife Megan and I met in an outdoor sporting goods store as she was preparing to serve at a summer camp. It was the mutual life calling and passion for ministry, which God had instilled in each of us, that forged an instant bond between us. From our very first visit to Hempfield, in early 2003, the genuine warmth and acceptance we felt from people made it obvious that God was doing something special here. Since that time, Hempfield has become a real home for us and we have deeply involved ourselves in the life giving ministry taking place here everyday. As I continue to pursue my ministerial training, I am excited to be gaining practical experience here at Hempfield. Whenever I take a break from work and study, I enjoy connecting with others through rock climbing, ice hockey, and Boston Red Sox baseball."
